so here is my newest issue, I just bought a 3-spoke 924/944 wheel to replace my 2-spoke. I was surprised to find that the part that fits on the steering column was too big!

I had done a bit of searching beforehand and had read several places that all these wheels are interchangeable...guess not! So I had to drill out rivets and swap the connector from the old 2-spoke wheel.

All is good (I thought)

But then the next problem showed up - the plastic cover of the wheel is also bigger than the old one! This means that the washer arm has no room to be activated, as you can see in this pic:

Has anyone had this experience before? Can I mount a different kind of washer/wiper stalk? I know the newer switches have "straight" arms, but will they fit on mine? Any good ideas would be appreciated...

What you received appears to be a 928 steering wheel, which is larger. A lot of sellers on Ebay aren't aware of the differences and advertise them incorrectly.

break out your dremel and masking tape. Tape the area off that you want to cut and carefully trim the plastic back. Sand the edge down with a sanding drum or a piece of sand paper until you get the look you want and maybe hit the edge with some black vinyl or plastic paint.

So the later ones are plug-and-play?

Not those kind. Those look like 944. My '81 has similar stalks, but I don't recall the plug interface looking like those...although it has been probably 5 years since I had it apart, so I don't trust my memory.
