my car has been running hot for a while now, im at school so i dont drive it much but since ive been home for the summer its been running hot. The temp needle hovers between the notch below the red and the tip of the red. First i flushed and changed the coolant, dident help. Then i changed the thermostat a week ago, helped a bit, i think its the water pump. Is there any thing else it could be/that i should check?

Does the engine seem overly "hot", or is it just the needle that is reading high?
There is a temp sensor on top of the engine block that is pretty easy to replace. It might just be an old sensor not reading correctly.

Cooling fans working properly? Is it hot when in traffic or cruising down the highway? _________________ 1994 VW Golf sport rally cross beast

What grade oil are you running?
I noticed my car runs cooler with thinner oil. _________________ 67 Mercury Cougar XR7 under Restoration

yeah fans work fine, i also put a manual switch on the second fan, the one usually for the AC so i can run it when ever i want, im running 20 50 i think ill have to double check. what scares me is when it runs hot i can realy feel the heat dumping in to the cabin, it can get unpleasant even undrivable on relay hot days in slow traffic.

Buy or borrow an infrared scanner and verify that the gauge is correct. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Thermostat, Did you use the OEM Porsche Behr or Wahler brand. Store brands do not work, no NAPA, no AutoZone etc.
Presoak the radiator and condensor with SimpleGreen or similiar. Then flush from the engine side out to the bumper. If you did it the other way you shove the dirt deeper into the fins.
Add WaterWeter or a similiar product. It will drop the temp 5-10 degrees.
Back flush the radiator--your radiator may be cloged.
Clean all the grounds. Especially the NEG cable. Go under the dash and clean the group of grounds above the fuse and relay panal.
Check your alternator for correct output.

i used a direct fit OEM i think it was a Wahler ill double check when i get home, im at college now but i go home on the weekends. As of late its been cooperating and running at the right temp. so the thermostat may have solved the issue but it could still use the new water pump i think, ill keep posting as i find out more.
