Hi All!
I was in the process of bleeding my brakes on my 79 NA 924 using a Positive pressure (air only) bleeder cap with 15 psi, when brake fluid started leaking out of the 2 rubber grommets that attach the brake fluid reservoir to the master cylinder when pressurizing the reservoir (presumably because its old).

Inspite of the leak, there was a steady flow of brake fluid exiting the bleeder valve, so i guess that means that there is enough air pressure anyway. Lightly pressing on the reservoir practically eliminated the leaks (which is probably what i should ask someone to do while i`m bleeding, still easier to do, than pumping on the brake pedal)

Can i safely assume anyway that since this is a positive pressure bleeder, that no air would get into the system inspite of the leaks at the 2 rubber grommets?
THANKS!
patrick

You shouldn't have leaks in the system with power bleeding on 15psi. If your brake system is leaking anywhere, i'd replace the part.

You can get by with a simple wiring fix when wires are old. You can get by with cheap fixes on airboxes. Even do easy cheesy fixes when something looks bad and spraypaint it.

But with brakes, your life depends on it every time you step on that pedal. If you're having to question the integrity of the braking system, then you know the answer to that question. If something is screaming "not normal" on brakes, i'd replace it.

at a little more than 15psi, I have seen the reservoir pop off the master and land on the floor...

LOL that would be entertaining. I run about 10-13 in mine, but have never seen anything leak at 15psi

CORSEPERVITA-
Yes i agree with you.

Normally i would replace or repair any leaking part (which entails having to import them from the U.S.) I was planning to replace those rubber grommets, just that in this little country of mine, you never know what you`l find or what you wont find (wont find applies especially to the 924)

So i would rather have the new rubber grommets with me before taking out the reservoir in case the grommets get totally ruined.

I wanted to take a chance with the old ones since the leak only occurred when pressurizing the reservoir, otherwise no leaks when its the master cylinder pumping the fluid out.

I will try to locate those grommets all the same.

Makes sense, I just looked at the location, didn't realize it! Best of luck finding those parts!

Just did my 944 at 15 lbs. There should be no leaks, as Corse said. Of course, I did this after changing the clutch slave, only to find the clutch master seeping in the cabin. I believe Performance Products has those master cylinder grommets.

I finally replaced the rubber grommets with aftermarket VW grommets and used 20 psi air with no leaks.
