I put up plastic in my garage and get the job done. I've seen where guys add box fans and filters to get an actual filtration system running, but I've never had any issues without them with an HVLP gun. If you don't have HVLP, I would imagine overspray could be an issue if you don't have ventilation.

One thing, WEAR A RESPIRATOR when enclosed in that small space. Face masks aren't good enough. I picked silver boogers for a week when I painted my old Trans Am with just a white "painter's mask" type of one. Sucked.

Interesting, somewhat fascinating, entertaining even, but not for me..
I'd take the risk of a few bugs and/or other assorted small airborne items landing on the paint before possibly having whole large sheets of plastic and framework being blown onto it. Best of luck (with the wind and the neighbors), and let us know when you plan to start spraying so we can get in enough prayers to stop the wind in the area.

From my reading on the subject, if you don't have access to an actual paint booth, your second best choice is to paint completely outdoors, and on a day with an occasional gentle breeze (obviously too windy is no good, but completely still can be worse because you could find yourself in the middle of a large embarrasing cloud of toxic overspray that refuses to disperse).
Third choice, but actually recommended against is painting in a regular home garage (confined space, will be filled with a cloud of toxic, explosive fumes, regular fans if used can make sparks, etc.)
Fourth, and also not recommended (though it's really a toss-up which is better/worse here between 3 and 4) is the quicky sheet plastic enclosed outdoor "facility" (not as bug-proof as you'd like, holds the cloud of overspray in there with you, could easily blow over, etc.) -And you're effectively tipping of the police ahead of time on what you'll be doing.

I say go a different route, and let the neighbors find their entertainment elsewhere.

I'm loving it! Keep the faith Joe! What's a little paint fumes among friends, huh?

Let's see the fan set up and the end result, which I believe will be awesome, before we cast judgement.
