starter removal problem

Hi to all it's been a while ..... i thought my last car a 931 would be my last porsche i feel i've had such bad luck when it comes to a 924,944,931,951... but i love them all .... my latest is a 924s that i just bought the p.o said the starter was shot. well i'm removed the battery and leads from the battery to the starter i remove one of the 2 bolts which hold the starter in place i get to the next one and i can't get it off it apears to be some what rounded or stripped i tried an open end which continues to slip off and i tried a socket , both 15mm i'm stuck i don't know what to do next ...has anybody had the same problem that im having now all help would be greatly appreciated...thanks p.s i really don't have the funds to tow it the shop at this moment i need a back yard remedy..thanks

Bad luck. Those two bolts should be 19mm and of 2 different lengths. Lets hope that some clown hasn't forced a bolt with the wrong thread size in there...

It would be best to tighten the one that you removed first. If its the bolt on the RHS then there's more room to play. Try heating the bolt head and smacking a slightly smaller socket on it...it might grip enough to get it moving.

Its not the end of the world if you have to cut the head off. Even easier if the bolt shank is the one threaded into the starter itself. Really as long as the bellhousing thread is undamaged then its only a minor drama.

thanks it's funny this is the second starter that i've changed one on a 924 turbo and this one 924s they are the same bolts on each one ... the one on the driver's side is 15mm and the one on the passenger side is not 19 but 18 mm i may try to cut the head of the bolt off if i could reach it i have the car jacked up in my driveway witch is slopped dosen't help i wonder if somebody makes a socket or openend wrench for rounded or stripped bolts?....thanks

If it is 18, thats not right. 19 is close to 3/4 and a box end of either is a start. Take another large box end and hook it into the open of the first to get more leverage. Use all of the previous post and wake up the bolt.
