|

I did few changes to my car over the last few months and now I can not get the clutch to work properly.
First I put an alum flywheel in, test drove it once and the clutch felt like it need adjustment as it was engaging just at the top end of the pedal.
I didn’t attempt any change at this time since I had to swap my tranny 4 speed for the spare one I had,
the one on the car was linking so I decide to give the other one a try.
Now, when the engine is running (start in neutral) I can not engage in any gear.
I though that the clutch need some adjustment so I try to adjust it with out any result.
After few search here, I suspect that the clutch was stuck to the flywheel and I try to start the car in gear with the clutch pedal to the floor,
I felt a little push as I crank it but it start and stay still.
So I release the clutch pedal and the car moved forward, put it to neutral and try to engage it to reverse, still don’t want to engage.
Any idea anyone
I guess that I need to adjust the clutch but I’m assuming I’m doing it wrong.
Could you please help me on how to do it?

Did you begin your clutch adjustment journey by setting the freeplay at the TO bearing? How's the orientation of the actuator arm? Then, finally, you can mess with the cable. Sometimes the cable end will pop off the arm when you're adjusting the TO freeplay, which is frustrating, and it moves inboard instead of off the end of the arm. _________________ '88 944 Auto - may or may not resurrect |

Thanks Slam
I thought about it for while and I went back and recheck every things and I believe that the clutch is stuck to the shaft.
I used a bar to lock the clutch pedal to the floor and look through the inspection door and the pressure plat is away from the clutch
but the clutch doesn’t want to move away of the flywheel.
Since I can start the car in gear with the clutch pedal down, I know the clutch is not stuck to the flywheel.
Is that making any sense?
Is there an easy way to unstick the clutch from the shaft?

Is too much oil would block me to put it in gear? _________________ 1976 924 N/A ROW SOLD

It sounds to me from your description that the clutch disk is binding on the splines on the pilot shaft.
This is normally dry, as any lube here has the potential to fling off and contaminate the friction surface.
Perhaps a little bit of lube would help free this up, if this is indeed the issue, without having to disassemble everything to ensure the clutch splines run as a slip fit on the pilot shaft.
Any lube here would have to be carefully applied though, as it would be problematic if it were to run on to the friction surface. Small amounts would just burn off with use, but you may end up with clutch chatter. Also, your lube may collect clutch dust and gum up the splines with time. _________________ 78 924 NA
