I've seen CAD mentioned here a few times before. Some may already be aware of this but I hadn't seen reference to it here, and I heard about this and thought I'd share it;

AutoCAD have a free, streaming version of their software available. Yep, it's totally free. Just sign up and use it. Now, quite obviously, it has its limitations and is not a full-blown design suite the likes of Mechanical Desktop, etc. But for (very) basic CAD stuff, it seems pretty useful. Even has an app. for your iPhone or iPad.

Also has their own CAD software that is free, it will accept DXF files and allow you to pick out materials and services to be performed. You could even submit the design for quote and production.
