|
|
Can anyone confirm if our single fan setups on the NA have 2 speeds of cooling? A medium and a high speed?
On Friday in traffic I noticed my needle crept way up to just before the red marker!
This weekend I checked coolant levels - No loss or leaks. It idled and run up to temp and thermostat opened OK too and I re-bled the system. I saw the fan kick in as it should bringin the needle back to just below the middle.
However this morning after driving at speed and then coming up to traffic and sitting the needle climbed up too high for my liking again.
I am thinkng a high speed fan setting is not fucntioning. Is there a way to test?
thanks

on my 84, there is only one fan speed.
However, if you turn the engine off at the key while the fan is still running, the fan runs on at a slower speed until the rad switch breaks open.
Short the switch with the ignition off, the fan should run slow. Then turn the ignition on and the fan should pick up speed. If it does not, you have a fault. _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)

Thanks for that! All seems good there.
I suppose it could be the gauge reading inaccurately.
Been wanting to get one of those infra red laser thermometers, and now I have the excuse.

I had an instance long ago where I was convinced the car was overheating. Stopped in traffic the gauge climbed the scale. When moving again it came down again.
After screwing about to get it running cooler I discovered there was a bad ground and the temp gauge was showing high temps when actually it was normal. Strange as it seems the alternator ground was bad. Just a thought. _________________ '78 924 NA with Collector plate

Yep, I've more than likely got grounding issues.
I've also got a connection issue with the circuit that makes my oil pressure needle, oil light, and brake light go absolutely nuts at random. Been trying to isolate that one for a while now....oh well...if it's not one thing.
However, apart from the little electrical niggles....am still loving the drive =]
thanks all
