It seems that air filters for a 951 are quite a bit harder to come by than for the standard 944. Decent ones seem to be in the 30 dollar range. I am thinking why not just put a K&N in it. However I have never warmed up to the K&N filters because when you pick one up you can see light through little holes in it with the nakid eye. Does a K&N trap grit as well as other filters?

i have K&N filters in all my cars and haven't had any issues. although keep in mind stock air filters are /just/ paper element. K&N uses oil on their filters due to the element on their filters to trap the grit and dirt so it doesn't get past the element. I run one on my 944 and have loved it so far.

Kinda nice just dipping it in solution and cleaning it and re-oiling it rather than buying air filters all the time too.

I've always had K&N filters (or other K&N type) and never had any issues and they've always been a performance gain. Even my lawn tractor has a K&N on it!
