Hey Forum, just had a quick question. I just replaced the batter in my car, but I know the alternator isn't working. I'm in the course of replacing the alternator but it hasn't shipped yet. I was in the course of messing around with other things in the car and noticed that the headlights aren't popping up anymore. I know that the alternator recharges the battery, and in my case, isn't happening right now. Are the headlights not popping because I have ran the battery down to a less than required voltage to pop open the headlights?
Thanks for reading my ramble,

I have a '79 924, I'll have to get back to you on the battery voltage/amps.
EDIT: The battery is a Duralast 48-DL, Cranking Amps 875, Cold Cranking Amps 700, Reserve Capacity 115
I just don't understand if the headlights are directly related to the current voltage of the battery, if they are, it would make sense due to the alternator being faulty. _________________ 1979 924 Sebring Edition, "Claire" |

I was just joking about your type-o. Not too sure what the problem could be, fuse, relay, motor, bad wiring?
I would think 12 volts from the battery would make the lights go up. Good luck. _________________ I got nothin'

It WAS working, I flipped the lights off, then went to hit them back on...and they didn't pop back up. Think I might have blown a fuse?
Edit: The fog lights were working while the headlights were not, not neither work. It almost seems like it is battery related, unless headlights/flood lights run off the same fuse. _________________ 1979 924 Sebring Edition, "Claire" |

| I also have a 79' 924 and it has the same problem, just the lights dont go down. The lights still work and all, and I also thought it was an alternator/battery problem. Most of the problems with my car have been alternator/battery related, so it wouldn't surprise me if that was it. |

The circuit to control the light movement is a tad complex and relies on a wheel on the end of the motor with three contacts. These can go a bit agly, but before you go to the trouble of dismantling it (not difficult, just takes a bit of time), check the socket plugging into the motor has all it's pins making contact. All it takes is for one to be loose and it doesn't work right.
