Hey guys new to the forums.
I picked up a 78 924 as my DD about 4 months ago. had some warm starting issues, if the car was sitting overnight and i went to start it up in the morning it would start but very weakly, i could hear it misfiring i would have to step on the throttle to avoid it from dieing, and then after about 15 seconds you would be able to hear it idle normal.if i would shut it off after running and try to crank it right away it would fire right up, but if it was sitting for about 30 minutes it and cranked it it will fire and die immediatly, and i would have to crank it for 2 minutes at some times. to even get it barely ideling to give it throttle to idle normal in 15 sec"s.. i did some bacic stuff like cap, rotor, plugs, wires.... still having the same issues.
so of course i went on the forum saw that most people had this issue with there WUR. i orderd one and put it in last weekend. she started nicely, now not misfiring at all, smooth ideling, i was hoping my problem was solved, but later after it was fully warmed up i let it sit for 30-40 minutes, went to crank it and same result, cranking-fires then dies right away- cranking for about 1 full minute then starts but when it starts now it starts smooth. and in the morning after sitting overnight it starts smooth no throttle at all. but if it sits for 30 minutes it wonnt start easily unless its been sitting for 3 hours.
and to top it off today she"s idleing at 2k, i adjusted the idle screw all the way down and still at 2k, when i replace my WUR i removed the vacuum amplifier and all the cheap plastic vacuum lines attached and left the vacuum advance on the distrubitor, the EGR one is still connected, and i left the one to the right of the throttle plate conected, would disconnecting the vacuum lines on the 2 sensors in the coolant tube behind the motor cause this? i also removed the heater hose sized lines coming from the intake and to the air pup because m pump is siezed and there is really no need for one anyways...any help would be great....
thanks

Warm start issue is your accumulator, located in the back near the transmission. let it run for a few minutes then shut it off and unscrew the little flat head screw at the bottom of the accumulator. If fuel comes out, the seal inside is bad and you need to replace the entire unit. I'm 90% sure this will end up being your problem.
The high idle is due to a vacuum leak. So yes the 2 vacuum hoses that are not connected to the coolant sensor at the back of the engine are the culprit there. They may not be your only vacuum leak though, it will save you many headaches to just go ahead and replace the vacuum lines with silicone lines. The CIS system is not a fan of vacuum leaks and tracking down your problems become much harder to pinpoint when you have vacuum leaks. _________________ 1980 924 NA

I just recently had that exact same thing going on with the warm start problems. I went to a junk yard and found some accumulators (mine takes 2) that were in decent shape. They were 5$ each. So for $10 and an afternoon under the car, that problem can be licked no problemo. I had a string of posts on this forum where I was asking about it not too long ago. See if you can find it. Maybe it will help? _________________ Fred- 1979 924 |

| thanks guys, yeah i read about the accumulator its right after the fuel pump and haynes says its supposto hold residual pressure for 30 minutes? haha. see i know about vacuum leaks but when i disconnected the coolant temp sensor i didnt just leave vacuum hoses disconnected i just re routed them so there would be no leaks just the only thing still connected was the distrubitor advance, egr valve and whatever valve is next to throttle plates on the right, well i just got nice new vacuum lines from this place called sparomobile there braided and really nce im bout to just rout the sensors back in and see if that helps. thanks |
