I would, but I've got parts cars, and that makes life easier. If the clutch is new that's a good thing, and $1200 is a good price - around here it'd be an excellent price. Does the current owner know all it needs are the pumps? _________________ '88 944 Auto - may or may not resurrect |

Have not contacted the seller yet. I need to rebuild the trans in my GTI and need a car to drive while I have the trans out. Second gear and the second gear slider need replaced along with a few other things. Was hoping to find a running 924/931 that I could drive untill I get the GTI fixed and then get started on turning the 924/931 into a track car.
I think the GTI trans will hold up for at least another 3k miles or so. So if this 924 was a easy fix that wouldnt be a problem. _________________ 1994 VW Golf sport rally cross beast

Nope. Saw the ad last week and looked at it again today. The ad caught my attention because the car is a later year and the wheels that i like. _________________ 1994 VW Golf sport rally cross beast

Agree with all Slam said. But the thing that always, always sets me on edge is when the seller says something along the lines of, "Won,t a take much to get running..."
Yeah? Then why doesn't the seller just get it running? The answer, invariably, is because it ain't worth fixing.

Yep, that about sums it up.
And please humour me, as it's generally known that I'm mildly retarded, but do I understand correctly that you want to spend $1,200 on a non-running car to replace what I can only assume is a running car (albeit poorly) that just needs a day or two in a shop for some transmission attention? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I got my non-runner for $650 and it only took $14 to get it running. _________________ 81 924 N/A

Nope. Not going to replace the GTI. Just need a running car while I rebuild the trans and a few other things.
The wife and I are down to two vehicles right noew. The 4 door truck and my GTI. The wife needs the truck to haul 3 kids around in and with my work schedule and the kids school schedule car pooling aint gonna cut it.
Oh and I work for VW and have been wrenching on VW/Audi/Porsche for a a few years. So I will be rebuilding the o2o trans in the GTI. All of my Porsche experience is with 96+ and newer so the 924/944 is new to me.
Pretty familiar with the later VW versions of CIS and CISE. Have not played with the older stuff such ass MK1 VWs and What Porsche was using on the 924.
The ultimate goal is to buy the wife a SUV. Something along the lines of a Tahoe/Yukon. Retire the Dodge from daily driving duties and only use it for pulling toys around. Keep the GTI as my daily driver and occasional track toy and purschase a 924/931 as a dedicated track toy that can still see occasional street use.
I have my competition license from NASA and had been racing a 3rd gen Camaro in NASA Camaro mustang challenge. I have also done several enduro's in a fox chassis mustang and a spec 944.
I will be doing tech on race cars for NASA texas in 2011. Pat of my payment will be free track time hence the want to build a dedicated track car.
With the birth of kiddo #2 I dont have the time/want/funds to build and try to compete in another race car. _________________ 1994 VW Golf sport rally cross beast

About 6 months ago a foreign car dealer north of me had a 924 turbo for sale for 1200 dollars. It was in pretty good shape, with brown leather seats, brown two tone paint, and the turbo spooled pretty good. It sat and sat and sat. I dont know if he ever sold it. I drove it and liked it but was aiming for a 951 at the time. I know of a non-runner 924 turbo with ignition problem, pasha fabric seats and silver/black two tone that needs repaint for 1000.
Why spend 1200 for a non turbo 924 not running? |
