Anyone know where to find them or a substitute? I need them for my late '87 924s. Pelican will take at least 3 weeks to get them to me and I need them for inspection. Stock are listed as 14mm, the 944s seem to have 18mm for the rear. Any other ideas or suggestions? _________________ '87 924s - Haven't come up with a good nickname

I just found the suspension parts list in the technical section of this site and it is claiming the '87 has 18mm sway bars? I guess the only way to know for sure is to measure them... _________________ '87 924s - Haven't come up with a good nickname

The stock 1987 924S didn't come with a rear sway bar. I took the 19mm bar from a 951, and it bolted right on.

Can you remove the bar before inspection? _________________ Toofah King Bad

Well, that makes things interesting... Thanks for the info! There is already a of non-stock items on it (from looking at the maintenance records I am thinking a precious owner had some fun on the track) , so I am just going to have to pull it off, measure it, and go from there. _________________ '87 924s - Haven't come up with a good nickname

Yeah, I was a little curious as to why a non-essential part would cause inspection issues. I need to ask a PA mechanic about that (other than the one I took it to). The only thing I can think of is risk of it falling off and causing problems.
Good call though, I'll just remove it for now and track down the proper bushings for it during warmer weather... Still need to do the LH motor mount, cat back exhaust, and front brakes (new pads, but sticking pin ruined one...). _________________ '87 924s - Haven't come up with a good nickname

Any "loose" suspension parts will likely cause your car to fail inspection, thus a bad or worn out bushings will make this true. Best to just remove the rear bar for now - it will drive fine.
For the track, a good setup is the 30mm hollow bar on the front, and the 19mm solid adjustable bar on the rear. Works great on my 924S.
See the Paragon Products link above to view a pic of each.

Just an update on the sway bar. I removed it today for inspection (next step is having a stainless cat back system put on, cat forward is non-stock so I can't just bolt something on) and discovered it is 1) larger than 14mm (probably the 18mm setup, need to measure) and 2) the bushings are fine, the *drop links* are shot. So I am very happy I didn't drop the $52 on the wrong sized not even damaged bushings. Now time to drop $200 on the drop links...
Thanks all for the advice! _________________ '87 924s - Haven't come up with a good nickname

I'd go salvage on the drop links. I've never seen a bad one, & I bet they are a dime a dozen at someplace like 944Ecology or PartsHeaven. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Ditto on Rasta's comment:
The stock 944, 951, or 968 drop links will work fine and should be very easy to find, and pretty cheap.

Well it did not pass with the rear sway bar removed; the (non-Porshce) mechanic claimed that it looks factory so it needs to have it on. There is a mechanic very near me, as I have just discovered, that specializes in classics and hot rods so I will give him a call and see what he says. I am currently trying to track the drop links down. 944eco doesn't have them and I am awaiting replies from a couple of other shops.
However, the new stainless cat back looks and sounds amazing! _________________ '87 924s - Haven't come up with a good nickname

If you hjave a pair of ramps and basic hand tools you can swap out your dog bones in 30 minutes or less.
If you can't find good salvage, you could try these solid pieces from KLA:

The KLA drop links look pretty nice... I hadn't seen them before.
I might have to get a pair of those. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924S - track toy

20th St Auto had two used (but in amazing shape) drop links. With shipping it came to $55, so not bad at all. They went right on like a charm, planning to schedule the reinspection asap. Almost went with the KLAs, but since the stock ones where cheaper...
However, I hit a 'bump' (see brick road, optical illusion, big hole) and now the mystery header on the car is cracked at the flange to the cat. The fun never stops!! But that is another thread... _________________ '87 924s - Haven't come up with a good nickname
