These are good videos to show the 924 detractors. First in class, on road wheels. Nice! _________________ 1981 931 GT (CGT Intercooled)

I just read about the 924 le mans cars in a book about 911's. I guess this was one of the first years where Porsche took Le Mans seriously. Before that they just took the 924's there to advertise, and didn't intend to try and win the race.

After a really shitty day at work more than made up for it! I have one question, have any 944's ever raced at LeMans? I've never seen pictures or videos.
Thanks again,

Slightly O/T: Might as well mention the GTP in here next to the GTR?
Why wasn't there a film crew following the three Porsche 924 GTPs on the Le Mans race track when they first appeared, or some moving images (online) of the 1980 race at all?! Besides the occasional drooling on images of that era and the foreign articles/books there is little info on the 924 GTP subject during Le Mans.
Finally some decent coverage on Youtube of the 24hrs @ Le Mans of 1980
Hold ya horses …too bad there is really very few scenes revealing any of the three 924 GTPs during the race (cut back to a 42 minutes); The Television crew's focus is the larger engines and the most laps, so the head of the field. The Britisch crew attempts to follow Mendez, the AWM team (Racing Associates Inc.) from the United States and their two red Porsche 935 K3. Even during the introductions on the start field and the later pit lane coverage, there is not one full shot of our 924 GTP cars …tsss, awful isn't it?; All this time the camera is located next to the GTPs pit box… argh! And if that isn't enough, the weather is truly shyte and the finish is a real mess, WTF?!
…I wouldn't bother watching

1980 Le Mans 24 Hrs Review Part 3 (12:03) http://youtu.be/32Nie-kD-rI
Truly remarkable what these transaxles managed back then in that pac of wolves.
While you're at it, have a glance at the 1981 Le Mans (again very little Porsche 924!) and its history, see these Youtube flics (that have been mentioned several times on this board allready over the years but some links have dissapeared somehow):
LeMans 1981 Part1of5 (15:00) http://youtu.be/x-yX_kmcQrg
Yes, five parts, and part four is without sound due to copyright issues
Nice footage: too much story IMHO; The actual race starts in part 3…
But you'll get a good idea of the vibe and atmosphere surrounding these Le Mans events and racing in the early eightees.
Inhere you'll find a better chance of witnessing the GLP #1 doing it: A German Porsche 944 commercial.
Sure you want to avoid the 944 parts, very distracting …wugh!
Start somewhere at 05:10 to see some 40 seconds of movement…

You could consider the 924 GLP (#1) to be a 944 since the GLP’s engine featured the beveled text reading ‘944 Le Mans’. …but you've probably figured that out by now
Sit back, grab you're poison and enjoy.
After you've seen them all it should be time for bed; Sweet dreams.
