i just noticed for the 100th time that my dash has an EGR light, but i forget about it becuase it never comes on. i know there could be circuit issues, etc but what actually trips the light? i know in modern cars there are egr monitors and the computer turns the light on, but not in the 924... is it on a timer on my odo? what kind of on board egr diagnostics does my 924 have?

Hmmm...Not sure. My '77 doesn't have an egr light on it. I know the later, closed-looped CIS systems had an oxygen sensor with a light that came on every 30,000 miles or so. Maybe it's the same idea?

You're definitely confused. The EGR system is controlled by engine vacuum. There is no light associated with it.

Perhaps if you could describe this mystery light we could tell you what it is.

The Haynes manual is quite helpful in this regard.

It's just ODO based. There is a reset procedure for it in the Haynes manual. Not sure if this is for your year not, though.

Im pretty sure there is...in fact i KNOW there is, because my EGR light JUST came on today and ive got an 1976. Ill take a picture of the light too. I too am curious as to why it came on. I will take a peek at the vaccumm lines later.

You may have a light that came on, but it's not EGR. There is no such thing as an EGR light.

There is a light on cars with electronic idle stabilization that indicates when the O2 sensor needs to be replaced, but this was not available on models that old from the factory.

If you show us what you are talking about, you may get some helpful answers.

I will get a picture up as soon as i can, but it is definitely there. sounds right that its odo based, my odo does not work so that would explain why it has never come on. not confused at all

I don't have any answers but I think this must be the light you are refering to.
