After my smog test I was told to check/clean egr system. I went home and unbolted the egr valve and metal tube that connect to the exaust. After completely removing this from the car the metal tube was completely blocked with crud. I used some acetone and carb cleaner then flushed tube with HOT water and is completely clean. I then went on to the egr valve itself and used carb cleaner as well. egr was very dirty as well. My question is should i be able to blow air into the vac port on top of egr valve? I can suck air in or out so im wondering if i damged the egr valve. The part that bolts to manifold and connects to the pipe I cannot blow air through but is much cleaner now. Did I mess up my egr in my attempt to clean it?

I think your my new best friend. How much? Do you think mine is toast? I looked in my manual and it says to apply a vacuum to test but how can a vacuum be there if air blows freely in or out? I can paypal if that works for you.

Where do you live? I'm bringing back a truck load of n/a parts, fenders, hood, sunroof, boxes of engine bits to wisconsin mid-april. Most of the parts are from a 1979, from arizona. So, all in pretty good shape. Let me find the part, and I just bought a Mityvac vacuum set. I'll check it out. yo

I looked at the EGR valve, and it has a decent sized rust hole on the side. Ain't gonna work, sorry. dave
