I have a couple questions. I replaced the alt belt and realized the same size NEW belt is still too loose of a fit, so I went back and got the next size shorter belt. After about 5 min of wrestling got it on and is better but still a little too loose. It will only squeal here and there. I replace the gromments where the alt mounts on the top but my main question is the lower bracket that attaches to the block. The bolt that attaches through the rubber bushing seems so wobbley and if i put a wrench on it to loosen it it seems like it wont turn, how exactly does this mount work? Do I just need to muscle it more? Ive read all about the different fixes on here nut i cant seem to figure out how this lower block mount/bushing bolt thingy works. Any pics or info would be great. Today I get to install new in tank pump/ new external pump and new injectors bad news is where i live it just snowed 1 1/2 feet a day ago its sposed to warm up a bit and ive already shoveled snow out of the way. Anyway thanks for any insight and thanks for your time!

Did you look in the PET?
It shows an exploded view of all the parts of the alternator mounting.
See if you have all the original components.

To be more clear i have the haynes manuals and the upper and lower mounts look original is the lower bolt that goes through the rubber bushing on the block is that bolt supposed to wiggle back and forth and side to side? i think i see a nut on top but when i tried to wrench it off it seems like it doesnt want to budge. This is where i believe the hockey puck fix is supposed to go but im afraid to wrench it any harder. is this bolt supposed to be rigid ir have play?

it is not a bolt through a rubber bushing. It is one singe part. A rubber disk with one both surfaces a flat metal piece with a piece of thread vulcanized to it. Yes it will wiggle a bit around. No. 10 in the drawing.

number 10 exactly, here is a pic of one i found http://img.inkfrog.com/click_enlarge1.php?image=DSC03951.JPG&username=mikehealy5&aid=021152885 Now does this just unbolt so i can replace the bushing or hockey puck fix it? it seems like the exposed head of the bolt doesnt want to turn/ not to mention its so wobbly.

They can be a big bear to get off like he was saying the all thread is
vulcanized & doesnt go through you get side play when the rubber wears . This part or a grommet will cause side play asnd a loose belt.

I'd advise hitting the vibration damping piece with some penetrating oil and possible some heat before attempting to remove it. As noted, the flat metal surfaces are vulcanized to the rubber, and if they break off, it will be much harder to remove the threaded portion from the block.

I actually your problem is tensioning the belt. you have to seriously pull up on the alt to get the belt tight.Maybe get a friend to pull up on the alt while you tighten the two bolts?
