I was just watching the montage for series 16 and it has just a wee snippet that shows a 959 flash past with an F40 in hot pursuit!

While I LOVE the BBC Top Gear. I would like to chime in and say that I also really dig the new American one. It's basically the same show, just with Americans instead of Brits. _________________ Fred- 1979 924 |

I'll never know 'cause I wouldn't watch it even if they paid me (proud to have never watched even a second of the Aussie one, too).

They had a couple of Reliant Robin stories. The rocket was just one of the flashier ones. There was a story where Jeremy had to drive one about 4 four miles. He constantly tipped it, but also had some good conversations with the locals (and an enthusiasts club!) about it.
I got hooked when I saw the 10,000-pound-Italian-supercar challenge. I still love that one, but it's a close thing with the 1,500-pound-Porsche challenge. That one is very special to me because that's what inspired me to go buy a 924!

The newest episode of the american version took a shot at the 924. Called it a failure. _________________ 1980 924 NA

i got bored to death. the same guy that does it (the skinny dude who was on that other track show with tracks and stuff) is just so monotone and doesn't come across as hilarious and sincere in the personality factor as the BBC top gear. Not to say he does a bad job, nor do I think he does a poor job. Just not the same. You can't expect the same results with different people but then again, I don't think they're quite after the same crowd either, otherwise everyone would just tune into the BBC.
My dad has become a fanatic of the american top gear and I remain a BBC fanatic. Either way, I think it's a good thing, me and my dad are car nuts, and it gives us stuff to talk about, we even get out and work on cars now and then together because of it. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

Yesterday's show was once again complete and utter nonsense…
Glad they're back!
Looking forward to the 959 episode! |

The Reliant Robin was a hilarious eppisode one of my favorite ones. US top gear has focused to hard to be like the British Show. I think they need to loosen the grip and branch off and do their own things and pull their fingers out their ass they seem so stook up speaking as if its completely scripted. All in all the shows okay and yeah they where dissing the 924 in a later episode. I couldnt care he just a failed Comedian him and the other movie star. _________________ 1978 924 n/a |

i cant wait for the show to begin
yea...i've seen the american top gear...its just a sorry ass lame copy...you can see how they fail miserably at copying the british show in so many ways...it makes me sick. if they want a good show they should be original...spontaneous...not try to copy something.
i think the main guy could do it...i've seen some sparkles of originality but i'm not sure if its him or the script _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

They definitely should not have tried to be a facsimile of the U.K. version. They should have gone all Yank instead. Jay Leno should've hosted it. It should've been broadcast live from the roof of the MGM Grand in Vegas or something. And their test track should've been Laguna Seca or Sebring or whatever. EDIT: No, wait... an oval track, with average speed as the decider instead of lap time. And they should have "Star in a Ludicrously Powerful Car! (...with a solid rear axle and cart springs)"
And they could've had features like, "Which AWD supercar is best for climbing the Rubicon Trail?" and, "Which is the fastest car to escape Washinton D.C. when aliens blow up the White House?"
And stuff like, "Can a classic muscle car consume as much gas as every model of European Hot Hatch current on sale?"
I'd have watched it if they did that. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Gotta agree with you on this. I think they should have gone out on their own, rather than being stiff copy of the BBC Top Gear. The U.S. hosts can't pull off the same witty banter as the BBC hosts. The BBC crew would be hard to beat at their game. One of the few things that I do appreciate is the excellent camera work and editing that found its' way from BBC Top Gear to the U.S. version.

Sounds like another high brow auto aficionado who hates it when the "cart sprung" lump stomps on the lap times of "proper" sports cars costing two or three times more.

Now you're being snarky and disingenuous. We both know that there are no circumstances which could compel you to watch the U.S. Top Gear... because... well let's face it... it's American, so obviously there is no way that it could be as good!
