Hey
Still searching for a car... I've come across quite a few 924s with broken odometers. Other than ensuring the timing belt gets done, do I need to worry about high mileage on those engines? Are they easily freshened up?

thanks,
c a r t e r

Very tough motor. There seem to be a disproportionate number of 87 924S head gasket failures, but other than that. . .

Refresh the belts and rod bearings and drive her hard.

BTW, odometer gears can be replaced and seem to be a common failure among the 924S/944.

Use the broken odometer gear as a bargaining chip when buying
one of these cars.

I got the PO of my car to come down on price $2000 from the
asking price...

$500 for broken odometer/not true mileage
$500 for unknown timing belt age
$1000 for almost blown clutch

Asking price was $3500 - I got it for $1500.
