Ok this is really funky... the car run if I hold the key in the postion to engage the starter, turn the key to the normal run position and it dies... its like the ignition is only getting power when the starter is. Any ideas on how to tackle that one? _________________ 81 924 N/A

Is that something I can get anywhere or do I have to get it online? _________________ 81 924 N/A

You might as well order it online. Any parts stores near you will have to order it regardless. Might be a good idea to buy two and have a spare. I remember reading on here that excessive weight on your keyring can cause these things to fail. I've had to replace mine as well. _________________ 1978 924 NA

| That looks like the right part but you could take out your existing one to be sure that pin configuration matches the one in your car. I don't recall that there were different patterns/parts but you never know... |

These may be available at Autozone, in stock, as they have other applications. I may have purchased a spare there. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."

Pin pattern approved, but I can't tell for sure if your G will interfere in there…
It's more common that both halfs of our Ignition Switch are white;
Usually the black bottom half of the switch indicates it's one of a different equiped VAG car using more and/or other pins.

Until you replace it, when you release the key, make sure the switch returns as little as possible from the start position. Sometimes you can tweak it forward a smidgeon, without engaging the start, or when you release it, see that it doesn't back off too much, and the ignition circuit shall stay energized with an otherwise problematic switch.
Also in the start position on the ignition switch, the coil should get full power, but in the run position, it gets a different source at a lesser 'run' voltage. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."

It could also die in the run mode due to a bad resistor/resistor wire to the coil.

I would try and get German. . .I've had a knockoff switch fail quickly. Did you check EBS Racing? _________________ Toofah King Bad

After installing a new switch and having it fail to start the car. I completely by accident found a 79 924 in a Pull-a-part with a almost flawless fuuse box, snagged it for $12 and the 924 runs again! Now I just have the get this steering wheel back on _________________ 81 924 N/A
