Can a car run too cool? Last weekend, drove a half an hour at 60mph, did two runs at Autocross and half hour home and temp guage hardly budged. On the temp guage in the dash, the needle never came out of the little white square box on the left and on the gauge in the center console, it never got above 80 celsius. Do I have a bad temp sensor or is my car just that cool. Do both gauges run off same sensor? I think I'll let the car idle and see if the fan kicks on. I do have a bigger airdam on the front and it has a bigger scoop than stock. Could I be scooping alot of air up and through the radiator. Coolant was changed a year ago.
Thanks,
Captain

Sounds like you have to replace the Thermostat since it is always
open and so the engine is unable to build up sufficient heat?

I experienced these symptons once (during spring) when a mechanic
forgot / to put back the new Thermostat in the Thermostat housing
during annual inspection…
I noticed there was something wrong since the heaterbox (>1981)
wasn't functioning as well as it had been throughout winter.

The temp gauge in the dash is reading the temperature at the back of
the engines head (Rear coolant flange, underneath the distributor).
My guess is your center console gauge is the oil temp?
That temperature sensor should normaly sit next to the oil pan plug.

Regards, Harm.
