Guys,

I looking at using my GT replica again as a sort of every day car and while it has an alarm in it I was thinking of installing a GPS locator which calls my cell phone if the car moves.
Just wondering if any of you guys have experience with these units and how reliable they are.

The unit I’m looking at which seems to be readily available in NZ at the moment is a unit called G204 GPS Car Tracker ( http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/gps-car-tracker/ )

Recently around our area we have had a few cars and bikes stolen (including my daughter’s old 1990 Mercury Capri turbo) so I’m concerned that if my car is visible it could be stolen, hence a GPS alarm system might at least give me a chance to get the cops to it before too much damage is done.

I bought one and installed it on my car since my 924 is parked outside of my apartment complex and I was worried since it is a college town and all. It works like a charm, but it gets annoying every time I go to drive my car my phone rings. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry though. Mine is a cheaper version of what you're looking at. Best of luck!

Another option is www.trackit.co.nz

Every competitor in Targa events has to have one now, as they are helping to run the timing and enforce the 200kph top speed etc. Put mine in last weekend, and was quite straight forward to fit.

Very expensive compared to what you're looking at, but a lot of usefull features if you're going to be racing it again (timing, fuel useage, oil pressure etc).

Here in the states we have LOJACK. IDK if it works down under but you can at least look it up and see what it does and then see if someone down there is offering a similar service...
