so we are replacing the rev counter on my dads 1979 924 N/a and we have hit a prob.. the replacement unit is from a newer/differnt 924 and as a result has more termiinals than the old..
the old has 3 terminals.. tested on a multimeter the wires all work as normal so we know its just a faulty unit we have
the problem is.... where do we post the 3 old wires from the old unit on the right into the slots on the new unit on the left??

Can't see the front, and I can't really speak to the euro lineage of this part (perhaps another UK resident could chime in...) but I'd guess the one on the left is not from an early, pre-83 924. IIRC the early connectors were all the same (that 3,4-prong doohickie) so you might have a replacement from a 944 or a later car?
Not sure how to make that fit... |

Have a look at the Haynes electrical diagrams. The pinouts on the diagram should be numbered, as are the sockets on the back. Tracing the lines back to where they came from and hopefully you should be able to figure out a cross-wiring. And even though there are six spades in the socket, I'm pretty sure the plug doesn't even have that many.
My English '82 has the bigger connector, IIRC, so clearly it was one of the many small upgrades Porsche made throughout it's lifetime.
