if you put power directly to the motor, and nothing happened... I'd say it's shot Hoss. _________________ 1980 924 NA

This is not an appropriate place for this type of post; this is where instructions on how to fix things are posted, not where questions are asked.
Look at page 272 of your Haynes manual.
You may be able to repair your motor as the mechanism may be stuck, rather than a cooked motor. You'll have to troubleshoot a bit more. _________________ 78 924 NA

I must have been doing things wrong for a while then if you are not supposed to post questions here. Anyone care to enlighten me as well as bren?
bren, pull out the mechanism (it's fiddly and it will take some manoeuvring but it's do-able). IIRC you remove the glass first and the mechanism will slide out of one of the cut-outs in the door. The old grease in the mechanism will have stiffened and the whole thing will need to be cleaned and re-greased. You might get lucky with the motor. Pull the motor apart and inside there is a little component which contains a bimetallic contact which breaks the circuit to prevent the motor overheating. It is supposed to reset itself but they can fail. Replacements are available (Google the p/n) or if you want to take a chance on it you can bypass the protection. BEWARE if you do that then there is no overtemperature protection for the motor and if anybody strains the motor in future then terrible things could happen. You might get unlucky and the motor windings/brushes have failed in which case you'll need a new one. When you reassemble spend some time aligning the window runners.
Good luck. _________________ 1981 931 series2 Euro spec |

Bren's question was originally in the How-to section of the board, which is not an appropriate place to post questions. It is a place to post solutions.

That explains it then. I get more and more enlightened every day in this place.
In that case: !tom, you'd better ignore my cheeky comment in your other post. I'll be a bit more careful next time. _________________ 1981 931 series2 Euro spec |

FYI the supplement section in the back of the haynes has the wiring schematics for power windows.
Just curious did you also check the ground for the motor?
