Do we have any word on Shell Rotella T6 Synth Oil?
I was reading some favorable things on the Miata.net forums, and tried it in my 1994 Miata R. It dealt nicely with some HLA (Hydraulic Lash Adjuster) ticking noises familiar to the Miata 1.8L's.
In searching around there is some enthusiasm for it. 05W - 40. Do we have any experience with it here? Found it at Walmart for $20.xx a gallon. They also had Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck for about $25.xx for 5 quart jug. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."

You can check out the arguments on Pelican, 911 tech forum, the 'ultimate motor oil thread'. Very confusing, and lots of talk and posturing over ZDDP content and other additives. Brad Penn and Valvoline VR1 seem to be the big winners, along with Kendall gear oil for the grouchy 915 transmissions. T6 is mentioned somewhere in the 81 pages! _________________ '83 944 Track car.

The old Kendall GT/Brad Penn is supposed to be great. Frank Fahey who works on my E34 M5 3.8L Touring refuses (literally) to put anything in the car other than that. But that is for normally aspirated engines. On the 931 side, we need (or would be foolish to have anything other than) a synthetic oil with a high boiling point to avoid coking of the turbo bearings.
That is a long thread to go through. There is also the www.bobistheoilguy.com site.
Well, it is in my crankcase now along with a Mahle oil filter installed. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."
