Paid a local suspension specialist to fit a couple of new front strut inserts recently. I now get a clunk when the load comes off and then goes back on the front wheels - when you come off a speed bump for example. I suspected the strut mounts but I checked them out this morning and all seems well in that area: look to be assembled correctly, can't pry the strut top side to side, all other bushes ok visually, steering rack and track rods have no play. I did wonder if upside down springs could cause this. So here's the thing: how can I tell if the springs are the right way up or not? Both ends are sitting in their "cups" tightly but both ends look the same to me.
Anyone know what I should look out for or can you suggest any other possible causes?
Thanks. _________________ 1981 931 series2 Euro spec |

haven't got much experience with suspension... but it sounds like the spring is too short/damper can expand more than the spring.
Have you tried jacking the car up and see if there's still some tension on the spring?
Can't think of anything else, but linkages (track rod? dunno if that's the right name for it... lower joint between hub carrier and suspension arm, on which the wheel 'turns' when steering) _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)
