|
|
Hello all,
I am building a 924 Carrera GTS replica from scratch, and I have to decide which way to go regarding the brakes and suspension
Here are the specs :
Base car 84 924 N/A
951 engine installed together with 951 tube, and 951 LSD gearbox
Complete rear axle (from an 1988 951 donor car with ABS)
Front arms from early 944 (steel) to keep the offset for Fuchs wheels
Complete front struts, hubs and spindles from 1989 944S2, together with 944 S2 discs and calipers.
Here is where the problem starts. I tried to fit 16" Fuchs on these but they touch each other. Car will have wide CGT fenders, so i plan to use 7 & 9x 16 Fuchs.
How do i solve the brakes issue with Fuchs 16s and 944 S2 hubs ?
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks

what do you mean by "they don't touch each other"?
If you mean that wheels don't clear the calipers then 951 used special 16" Fuchs that cleared the calipers.
And GTS used different brakes (930 ones iirc) that cleared standard 16" Fucsh as those are the ones that were used on 930 to begin with.
You can try to use spacers that are few mm thick (test with washers on the wheel studs how much do you need) and probably longer studs (easily available). _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Thanx Raceboy.
Yes, what i meant was that wheels dont clear the calipers. I am worried that the fronts will end up quite wide and touching the cgt fenders. _________________ Steve

Ended up fitting 944 brakes with 4pot boxster calipers.
Adapters are currently made
Hope i have enough braking force with those
Car has 951 engine-stock for the moment _________________ Steve

Boxster calipers are very good and I don't think they have less braking force compared to S2/non-S 951 4pots.
But they are monoblock and more rigid (lighter also). _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Braking force wont be a problem, braking force is limited by the tyre traction (at least on most cars on this side of the 60s) _________________ 1980 924 Turbo
