I have looked at every picture I can, but I cannot figure out the order of the plug wires on the distributor. Can anyone help me out? I know the firing order, but I am having a really big brain fart........

-Just a note, the distributor was not on the car when I bought it nor were the wires on the dizy cap......

Take the cap off, and the inner dust shield if you have one. You should see a small scribe just to the right of where the plastic electrical plug is on the distributor housing. When the cam and crank are both at TDC, you want this to be #1, such that the distributor rotor points pretty much exactly at this mark. When you put the cap back on, you should have one of the four terminals that lines up precisely with this position. That is #1. The rotation around the distributor is CLOCKWISE, 1-3-4-2. You may need to remove the distributor and reindex it. Note that the rotor will rotate slight when you remove it due to the helical drive gear, so you have to account for this little bit of rotation when re-inserting the distributor. Get it close, and then loosen the nut on the clamp and rotate the distributor housing to get things precisely lined up.
