hello people. my name is george and I'm from Austria. I'm new here and have a question. I'm building a race car on a 924 2.0L. for us it is very difficult to get tuning parts. I'm met with the company "ideolas garage". I have my share in the value of 7000 - chosen. Now I would like to know if parts of you has ever built by them. pistons, connecting rods, large valves, camshaft, exhaust, etc. how good is the quality of the parts? how long does it take for the parts to be delivered? you also have the alternative company speziale 924 parts for sale?

The person behind Idolas Garage, Dan Beckett, is a very active forum member here.

He does not manufacture any parts himself, rather he has become a one-stop shop if you will of the majority of aftermarket goodies for these cars.

In my opinion, the parts he offers are of high quality. However, as he is mostly a point of contact and offers drop shipments of goods for some products, he has no way of performing QA on some goods he resells. In the unlikely event you do happen to be delivered something faulty, you'll have to take it up with the original manufacturer.

Some people have complained that service is slow. If you understand that this is a side business and he has a day job that sometimes requires travel, you shouldn't be disappointed.

I'm sure others will chime in. We have a thread in the Buy and Sell forum that people use to leave feedback. That should give you an idea of who is trustworthy.

Ideola's Garage is a great company to deal with, especially for international orders. Dan is very helpfull and knows the cars very well.

Just a couple of clarifications (sorry, this is a bit long winded):

There are a few components on my site that are manufactured locally, such as the power steering brackets and short shift kits. There are others that we are essentially forced to stock, such as the throttle body rebuild kits and Stage8 bolts, because those manufacturers will not drop ship.

The benefit of drop shipping is that it saves shipping costs. If I had to have every item shipped to me, and then inspect it, and then repackage and reship, the shipping costs would more than double. I elect to be a "non-stocking reseller" wherever possible because it keeps my overhead down, makes it simpler for me at tax time (i.e. no carrying costs of leftover inventory), and in most cases, reduces the time and expense of shipping. However, for international orders, many of my suppliers will NOT drop ship to international addresses. This is another reason I do what I do: by offering product to international customers, it expands the potential market that allows certain things to be brought to market that would otherwise be impossible if I were relying on just customers in the US (i.e. the main bearings and ARP rod bolt group buys are perfect examples).

The practice of using resellers (such as myself) to process orders and have those orders fulfilled and drop shipped by the manufacturer is quite common. It is a real benefit because otherwise, many of these parts would not be available to the general enthusiast. The vast majority of the suppliers I work with will not sell to the general public. They will only sell to someone set up as a business with a federal tax ID and a state sales tax license.

Examples include virtually all of the suppliers of performance parts listed on my site, including the gear reduction starters, Cometic gaskets, Diamond pistons, Crower rods, and even some things like main bearings, etc. Because I am a reseller, I am in no position to warrant such items...but this is no different than any other reseller of such parts. If you look at other resellers, you will see that invariably, the warranty is provided by the manufacturer, not the reseller.

"Ideola's Garage" is a side business for me, it is not a source of income. I do travel extensively for my day job, so this sometimes adds to the processing time because I may not have all of my reference material with me, or orders may arrive at "the garage" while I'm away on business.

The tiny amount of profit I generate goes to pay state & federal taxes (a requirement because of the aforementioned tax IDs), credit card fees, hosting fees for the website, and other such expenses. Anything left over is dumped right back into "research and development" to bring additional products to market, typically to pay for stuff like shipping expenses to send prototypes back and forth (e.g. when I was developing the starter and the rod bolts), gasoline to run prototypes all around town (e.g. when I drove to Cleveland to drop off a block and two heads for Cometic to make our gasket), and often to underwrite group buys in order to get new product to market (take your pick, I've underwritten every single group buy we've run).

I am in no way trying to compete with the large stocking catalog resellers. If you have the patience to dig through PET and figure out every niggling nuance and detail for your specific make and model, and then sort out which parts are actually available, which parts have been superceded, etc., then go for it. I would argue that if you add up the time you would have to invest to do the amount of research I have done to make ordering easy, that you will wait longer and have more mistakes and errors than if you just order from me in the first place.

To summarize: My service to the community is primarily in these areas:
  1. Making it easy and convenient to get everything you need in one place without having to be an expert in PET (or even look at it if you don't want to).
  2. Providing a trusted, proven model for organizing and executing group buys. The trust component is important both withing the 924 community, as well as with the various vendors. I am that trust component. You guys know me. The vendors know me. I have a perfect record on group buys with zero complaints.
  3. Bringing innovative new products to market for the 924. NOBODY else is doing this.
  4. Harnessing the buying power of the INTERNATIONAL community to bring hard-to-find and NLA parts back into the market.
And for what it's worth, my prices are *very* fair, I check them regularly against 3 of the major resellers, and do my best to make sure I am as close as I can possibly get (in many cases lower) to their advertised prices.

Hi Dan

I haven't bought anything from you yet, but with all the feed back and support you offer to this make and model I don't believe you need to justify anything you just wrote.

Your doing a great job for us and you deserve to make some money doing what you do.

Cannot wait till I can buy the Big Valve kit and all the other bits on that page......

PLEASE don't feel you need to JUSTIFY the way you do business. You do a stack of work and deserve to be compensated for it!

Shane.
