The heap I bought had only one wing mirror on the drivers side. The electric motors work but the "string" used for moving has snapped in at least one place so the mirror is currently set using blu tack to hold it in place.

I carefully removed the mirror to try to remove the motor from the metal frame which joins the car. It was of the three plugs type but had been sikaflexed in place! Once I'd removed the mirror I couldn't see how to remove the motor from the frame. After a few cross words I siliconed the mirror back on, but then it fell off cracking it in three places

I'm looking to get a replacement mirror but need to know how you remove the motor from frame. The PO provided a passenger wing mirror (and it came with already badly broken mirror) and it is of a later 944 type with a gear lock mechanism to hold the mirror in place. With that removed I can easily see the three bolts to remove the motor from the frame. But the drivers side has a rubber seal around the motor and without splitting the rubber I can't see how disassemble it.

The car is guards red but if I can remove the motor from the frame I can purchase any colour frame and mirror without the need to respray it.

Any top tips?

Clarks Garage provided the answers. The sikaflexe must have covered the three bolt holes.
