Raced something a little faster - the new racecar.

A lot of rain, and both races were mixed conditions; first one started out damp, started sprinkling halfway through, and went to full downpour with a few laps to go, when we got an early checker. Took 2nd in that, my first SCCA (Regional) race with the DSR!

Second race was a National, also my first; started out wet with light rain, slowly clearing as we went, but never quite got fully dry. Took 4th in that.

Oh, yeah - no rain tires!!! All that rain experience in the 924 REALLY helped... not to mention all the snow driving! Full race slicks in full wet conditions is pretty tricky...

Here's a video from my first quali session; was still learning the track, so not real impressive (or close to the pace), but starts to give some idea of the speed...

Nice. Is that track really wide or are you sitting real close to the ground?

Heh heh... yeah, it's that low. For reference, the side of the car is about knee-high. Total height of car is less than waist-high. Very low.

Thanks!

I'm still getting used to it, but this weekend helped a lot. Was way off the pace, but that had more to do with my unfamiliarity with the track and car.

Yes, definitely very happy; we're down on power, and grip, but the balance and driveability are great, and so far the car's quite robust, so we're starting with a pretty good base, all things considered. We also know what we need to do to fix power and grip, so no worries there.

We also need to take weight out, but there's many options, some practically free, some not horrendously expensive - don't have to resort to titanium bolts everywhere just yet!

Taking her back to our home track again in a couple of weeks, and looking forward to a good result there, when I actually know the track! Then maybe one more outing, to Mid-O, and that'll be if for the season...

PS - while we're "down on power" - I'm definitely not feeling like the car's slow and I need any more just yet, if ya know what I mean! It can pull nearly 0.5g in straightline acceleration in 2nd gear, after all!

I just need more grip/aero to carry speed through the corners, first...

It's a D Sport Racer - like a Radical - they have 'em down there too... engine rules allow, among other things, a 1000cc bike motor. We're using a 2008 Suzuki GSXR 1000, 185hp stock.
