88 924S trans - Does it have the speedo drive gear inside?

Hi I Have a 88 924s 5 speed and noticed it has a hex plug where the speedometer pick up is on 85.5 on 944. Does anyone know if the plug was removed if the later 944 speedometer pulse generator will screw in. Or if the drive gear would be in the trans? I guess once I pull the trans I can take the plug out and see for myself. Had a guy asking me if my trans would work in his 88 944.
