I have a question, first the scenario... I pulled all the bolts holding the bellhousing to the back of the motor.after pulling the engine mounts. I can get the bellhousing to pull away but the motor won't pull away like a na motor wil. My qustion is the hydraulic clutch sys. Holding it from moving? It would probly help if I dosconnected the clutch slave. Would it be better to bolt the bell housing back on and take out the4 bellhousing to torque tube bolts? I'm trying to get the motor out with out pulling the tranny back. Just thought id pose a few simple questions. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

You have to remove the clutch fork pin. There is a set screw that holds it in place...loosen it first. Then use a long 1/4" ratchet extension and tap out the clutch fork pin. Once you have the pin out, the fork will be "loose" inside the bell housing. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I have motor out though can't get the bellhousing off. I loosened the set screw and screwed in a long threaded 8 mm bolt to pull the release lever shaft nothings happening ... a 1/4 in shaft won't fit in the 8 mm threaded hole. It looks like a sthreded sleeve I was thinking the threaded8 mm long bolt would pull it allowing a 1/4 in in shaft to knock out the shift fork pin if that's what needs to be done ...ill post a pic. ..though input is wanted maybe I need to get a long 8 mm shaft or slightly smaller one say a 7 mm and knock out the pin freeing the shift fork. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

The threaded hole on the end has nothing to do with removing it. You have to smack it out with a drift and a hammer. I use a long 1/4" ratchet extension as a drift. Works perfect. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I wouldn't say nothing. . .I usually whack it from the topside with a long punch to get it moving, then thread a bolt in that hole, close a crescent wrench under the bolt head and whack the wrench to get the shaft the rest of the way out. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I use a bolt and a large slide hammer if the motor is in the car, if it's out a punch on the other end of the shaft is a lot easier/faster. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

It took me a awhile to figure it out..
I knocked this pin out first thinking once I got the other end off,
you know the set screw end. Thinking that was just a cap and once I knocked the pin out I would drive the shaft out with the pin out of the way.. nuff rambling.
I made a puller kind of, .. like this.
I only had to drill out 4 of the bolts that hold the flywheel on
.. no big deal.
I just unscrewd what was left after removing pressure plate.
... and here it is on the stand ...

For now Im looking at cost as being the culprit though that can change considering install date being next spring.
Now on to the good stuff.. I know some will still be scratching there heads
I want to use the na clutch and bell housing and a 931 tubo setup. Is this even possable due to starter location and turbo plumbing ... I was going to include oilcooler plumbing though i can get an adaptor plate for that.
So right off the bat what have the few others discovered when going this route.
