I have been busily working to get the Baghdad Taxi finished up for this Chumpcar Race (Oct 8-9). Should have it ready to go by next weekend. This is supposed to be the longest endurance race in the world at 25 hours, 25 minutes, and 25 seconds. Regardless of how long it is keep a $500 crap can running that long will be the primary focus. _________________ Matt

Idle slowly around until all the others fall to pieces and you will be the only one left

I ran my first Nelson Ledges 24 in '91 and a bunch more after that. Can't say as I would walk across the street to enter a crapcan version. Trix are for kids. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car H-Prod SCCA

I have a lot more fun racing crapcans than I ever did with the PCA snobs. Watkins Glen is my home track and I have plenty under my belt there. So, you can keep your BS delusions of personal grandeur to yourself. _________________ Matt

Yeah, that was a little uncalled for.
IMO, strapping yourself into a fast car, driving your ass off, and giving your team a chance to win, is auto racing, regardless of the cost. _________________ Toofah King Bad

LOL... who said he ever raced PCA? Feeling insecure much?
Fifty50Plus has been racing a lot longer than the rest of us - his personal feelings do carry more weight, particularly in the racing world. And that's all he was expressing...
My coworkers race Crapcan and Lemons. It's fun, it's entertaining, and it has its place. But it's not the same as the pinnacle of US amateur racing, SCCA. Different thing entirely, and I would never much be interested in either myself - if perhaps for different reasons.
But that's JMO.
Good luck out there, have fun, and don't get any sand in your vajayjay! That's what it's all about! _________________ Vaughan Scott

If he has so much racing experience, then he should know that everyone had to start somewhere. Road-racing is bloody expensive to get into, the folks running Lemons, ChumpCar, Rat Race, etc know this and are trying to give people a chance to have fun with cars on a race track again.
BTW, the skills, planning, organization, etc are possibly ten times more important to a successful Crap-Can endurance racing team than it is to an SCCA sprint racer. Racing for twenty minutes is certainly intense, especially when battling cars of the same class and/or make.
However, imagine having that kind of intensity in changing weather conditions over the course of 12-24 hours with rock hard tires and a wider range of cars and driver skills to contend with. I still remember standing on the pit wall at Portland at 3am awaiting my turn to go out and realizing that there is nothing like this anywhere for the average amateur racer. The driving rhythm that you can find yourself in over the course of a 2-hour stint is amazing. The ability to try new lines, work on ways to pass the cars around you, focus on saving fuel/tires/brakes, is pretty amazing and worth experiencing.
Endurance racing is quite a bit different than sprint racing. Neither is better than the other, they are just different. _________________ Stefan

"Cant help it" though the phrase walking across the street for a crap-can version .. cracks me up ! Of cousre I mean no disrespect to any party..
I wish you luck and that is a long race ... These cars r fun enough to drive if crapcan is where one starts its good , it just brings driving these cars up
a notch or 2. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

I am sure that 50/50 is a great guy, but his comment would have been better kept to himself. _________________ Matt

From what I recall of Chuck's experience, most of it IS endurance racing, not sprints. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

In any event, opinion or not, I thought his comments were needlessly unkind. "Budget" racing is the only kind many people can afford, and putting together an enduro team, building a car, and fighting through the night is really an amazing experience that people should be encouraged to do. _________________ Toofah King Bad

That's one reason why I hate to get rid of the n/a fleet and crapcan full of parts! One of these days I'll have time to do this. _________________ '83 944 Track car.
