Hi there -
I'm considering buying a Porsche 924 to use as a weekend toy/occasional autocross car. I'm pretty familiar with the car (and its 924S/944/968 cousins) and I've narrowed it down to the early 80's 924 - I like simple, light-weight cars, and I don't mind if it's slow.
Does anyone know if the standard 1982 Porsche 924 could be ordered with "ala-carte" performance upgrades, or did they need to be purchased as a package? Specifically, could you order the 4-lug 15x6 wheels and an LSD on the standard 924, or did you have to upgrade to a higher-spec package? I don't want to have to get a sunroof car.
I'm planning on running the car in SCCA H-stock class, and having the option to run 15" wheels would be a huge upgrade, with a much better tire selection. I realize they aren't any wider, but the options for high-performance 14" tires are slim, and only getting slimmer.
Any info would be appreciated! Thanks! |

Hey, St. Paulite, I used to live on Minnehaha Avenue and Johnson Parkway for a millenium. Now live in the country in Wisconsin during the spring/summer/fall and winter in NM. Anyway, once I get back this spring, I'm going to finish working on a 1981 turbo car. It will have a rebuilt engine, top to bottom, nice leather sport seats, nice black carpet, a 15 foot black paint job, 15 inch spiders, or 16 inch D90 wheels, your choice.
Looking to get 3000 for it. Let me know if that works for ya. Dave. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

The 924 did come from the factory with an "M471" option. I think it included 5-lug disk brakes, upgraded sways, shocks and springs. Not sure of the specifics, but they are easily discoverable here or via google or by following the linkies above...
15" wheels are readily available. My recommendation for cheap and light would be cookie cutters. Trash cans are too heavy and fuchs are too expensive. Phonies won't fit I don't think without moddies... |

Phonies fit fine and come in a few sizes. Some of those sizes are dirt cheap. _________________ Toofah King Bad
