I am about to start the motor removal process... should be fun. I need motor mounts, rings, bearings, oil pump so she's coming out.
My question is, due to laziness, can I take the motor out without removing the transmission? it looks like i have a good 6 inches in front of the motor to slide it forward, is that enough to disconnect the clutch or just wishful thinking? _________________ early 77 924 na |

At least on the 944 and 924s the front crossmember must be dropped to slide the motor forward for removal. _________________ 87 924s

The 2.0 liter also requires removale of the crossmember. The oil pan is much closer to the crossmember then the distance required to clear the clutch/pressure plate. _________________ 81 924 N/A

The first time I took my engine out I did it with both the tranny and crossmember in but it took FOREVER and I had to use pry bars. I would say as mentioned above to remove the crossmember and it will be much easier. _________________ Porsche 924 1977 N/A

What is the usual cost for rebuilding one of our NA 924's? I really do want to pull my engine. I have oil leaks, and oil sitting everywhere I cannot get to, and I only keep wondering what else is wrong in there.
What is the usual time for pulling the engine? Would make a great winter project here, or seeing as how I am am currently almost finished with my 1st year of Automotive Technology, to take the engine into my 2nd Year class when the time rolls around and rebuild it there as a great starter engine to work on. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924- Snailshell
