Suggestions? I was thinking of a Rustoleum primer, followed by generic Rustoleum for the top coat?
Any special tricks?

Rasta,
That's the best. I did about 8 cages that way an never had any surface rust issues. I did the 911 cage using a lacquer spray bomb and had some surface issues a couple years later.

Foam brushes and foam trim roller will leave a nice finish w/ the brush-on type rustoleum paint. Do not use "rusty metal primer", it takes forever to dry. Just use regular grey primer.
Consider painting the bars surrounding the windshield a flat black. The rest of the cage should be a shiny bright color, to aid in visual crack detection. |

The rustoleum and foam brush solution is a great idea. No overspray, efficient paint use, easier to clean up, and fewer fumes kicked into the air means it could almost be a family event.
Check out the local Home Depot or Lowes racing supply and look at the available colors in their canned paints. Pick up some brushes, trays and thinner then mix the thinner to the paint until it is about the consistency of milk and brush it on. It will self level and any drips are easily cleaned up with brushes.
It will need to be warm enough to work though. A ring of those halogen worklamps could do it with a couple of extra heaters to warm the fresh air source. _________________ Stefan

Hmm... I like the foam brush idea. Will try it on my 924 cage. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car H-Prod SCCA
