I have zero respect for the 911 and anyone who owns one.......so this made me grin.

My friend had a 1976 911....air cooled so it was cheaper to maintain? Nope.....the thing took something like 11 liters of oil for each oil change. It seems the engine is oil cooled to a certain degree. It made quite the mess when I changed his oil for the first time using a 5 liter container. And the oil comes out very fast.......holy crap.........

I think it was after I drove my friends 1976 911 that I began to dislike them......I could never get over the noise of the air cooled engine. The car handled very well and it had enough power to get around with respectable acceleration...........and the aerodynamics of the targa top were truly impressive.......but the air cooled engine and the stick shift coming out of the floor reminded me too much of my Mom's '72 bug.

I have no experience in the newer 911's.......so my comment is dated.

Mind you.......I've always lusted after a '89 931.......so my comments could be the rantings of a lunatic.

Ha, just kidding, I like them, wish I could afford one.

'Mind you.......I've always lusted after a '89 931'

If you find one, I'll buy it for you!

I have a new to me '85 911, I like it much better than my 924 turbo cars.

I think the best is, "they say driving a porsche is like being one with the road." That's funny!

No need to dog on the 911's

The driver was the idiot, not the car

The air cooled is an acquired taste, but I love it! For me the new water cooled 911s just don't sound right and never will. I also consider myself extremely!!!!! lucky to have both a 911 and a 924 in my garage.

And technically, the gear lever of the 924 also comes out of the floor ..... and my 89 C4 has a torque tube so the interior looks nothing like a beetle...more like the 924 actually

I just love Porsche's for being Porsche's!!

Cheers,

Ian

Even in Australia, where they are considerably more expensive than in Europe or the US, 911's are a bit of a status symbol. Especially the recent ones. You can see this, for example, in "richer" parts of Sydney where in the underground carpark of a certain major shopping centre you are likely to find two 911's parked side-by-side.

This rather turns me off them. I much prefer the rarity and unique character of my 924.

Wade.

I concur!!

Thus why I found one in good shape and am currently turning it into a race car....well, not at the moment....to far away from it

I also think that too many people buy a 911 for the status symbol....and I dislike them for it

I had a Boxster before to the 911 and was being constantly hounded at Porsche Club of America gatherings on having the inferior car of the Porsche line. And then we would go autocrossing and I would destroy them because the Boxster is of course much better balanced.

I just fell in love with my 911 the first time I drove it and that was that. And I do drive the snot out of it. The prior owner had never tracked the car and after the first time I did a full weekend up at Virginia International the engine was leaking like a sieve. And I became even more acquainted with the car after a full engine re-seal.

I think I love my 911 so much because when you actually drive it well on the track, it will reward you handsomely, but if you pitch her into a turn a little to fast or too tight, then you are off in the tulips.

Sorry for the rant.......just had to stick up for my car

Just as a note, I don't really hang out with Porsche people too much, to snobbish for me for the most part.

Don't get me wrong, I haven't even driven my 924 yet and I am salivating for the first time on the track

Cheers!!

Ian

WHUUUUUT?!

Did you drive around the fountain at idle, Rainman-style?! Jeebus, even thinking about the sound of those engines at full tilt makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end! They're glorious!

Agreed! And that's one with a mute (or two) stuffed in the end of it!

(desperately searches for a 2.7 RS YouTube clip... and gets distracted)

It did make me ask, "Where the devil are those Douchebags?"

But wait...! Here's one of 'em!
