Hello gang. This is my first post.
I'm about to become a 924 owner (maybe twice over). To keep a long story short, I'm planning to buy a major project (1978 924) that has the most insane custom body paint you've ever seen. I'm buying it for the paint job. The rest of the car is a serious project that I don't have time or money to attempt. So my idea is buy the project and swap the panels with the awesome paint to a daily driver that I can enjoy. I'm thinking that I'd like to buy a 924S. The parts are the two front fenders, the hood, the sunroof and the from and rear bumpers. Will these parts bolt on? Thanks in advance. |

It should work. The hood and quarter panels will swap over just fine.
The unknown is the sunroof panel, they retained the same basic shape overtime. Its just that the later cars changed to a powered solution which may or may not swap over to the older panel. Someone more knowledgeable in that area should be able to help clarify further.
Good luck! _________________ Stefan

For a 924S, yes, everything can swap over. As Stefan points out, the later 924S models had powered sunroofs, but a lot of people retrograde to manual due to problems with the plastic gear drives. I personally don't know what all is involved with the retrograde, but it is definitely doable. I know for sure that the rear upper latch mounts, the center sunroof deflector hinge, and both the front and rear headliners are different between the early 924 and the 924S. So you should plan to salvage everything that you can from the "awesome paint job" sunroof (interior and exterior bits) so that you can cobble together a solution. It might also be possible to mount the bits from the 924S roof onto the early roof and keep the power feature, which you might want to do if it's working on the 924S car you find. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Yes, the fenders should bolt straight up, I do believe there are some slight differences but nothing major.
The only issue with the hood would be that the 924S has pneumatic struts, so you would need come up with a way to use your hood prop rod.
As for the sunroof, they never changed... so you can put the electric parts on the early manual, or the manual parts on the late ones. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior
