I am looking for the name of a tool used to copy angles and curves. I had a metal tool that you were able to place against an object and it reproduced the curve or shape of the object that you could then take away to duplicate it .

The best way I could describe it would be to say it was a short ruler that had sliding pins that stuck out on both sides. When you placed it against a coke can for example , the can would push the pins out the other side in the shape of the can. There was a toy that would do the same if you pushed your face into it, it would show your face in 3D looked like a lot of little nails.

Have googled many different things but still cant find it.

Dressmakers use a thing called a "spline" which is basically a length of lead encased in rubber. It is used for tracing curves on a pattern for copying onto another sheet.

Normal contour guages available at most hardwares, certainly at Bunnings.
Pipe style one very interesting - if you find one of those in OZ do let us know.
