I needed to remove the light switch, but couldn't find details on how, except out of the Haynes manual..so I figured this might help someone..
The tabs holding the switch in place are located on the right and left sides ..about 1/4" below and above the top and bottom and about 3/8" deep...I used 2 flat blades..flat and sturdy as you can find ..wedge them in and press inward and gently pop forward.....then switch to the opposite end and do the same..
hope it helps.. |

For future reference, removing the switch this manner could potentially damage your dash or break the tabs on the escutcheon.
The switch can be easily removed by reaching behind the dash and squeezing the release tabs on the back of the switch. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

true, I taped the dash before popping it out...my hands a a bit large to do what would have been a better solution, and never having seen the housing I was un-aware as to location and number...
I intended to post pictures to help others, but was unable to load them.. |

I understand that it was your first time removing the switch. However, I wanted anyone who might come across this thread in the future to be aware that the switches are easily released by the two tabs on their backside.
EDIT:
Also, this is not just a "better solution". The escutcheon, or switch plate was never really meant to be removed from dash. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior
