Sources for a reasonably priced 931 air filter in the US?

I've seen 931 air filters for $35-$40, which seems kind'a high to me. I understand that the 931 air filter is different from 924 NA and is a low volume production item, hence the cost. should I go with an aftermarket filter (like K&N) instead? I'd prefer to stick with stock airbox, if I can find a reasonably priced filter for it.

K&N has an insert for the factory box. And, it is a Porsche. . .$35 is not bad for an air filter, IMO.

Plus, 931 is NOT a good car to skimp on.

Thanks for the tip, I'll get the K&N, I've seen them for $35ish on Amazon.

I am trying to catch up on all the maintenance the car should have had, but didn't. I'm not going to skimp by using substandard parts, I consider my time valuable enough not to do the same repair twice. I don't care whether it's a Porsche, a Ferrari, a Kia or a Yugo, to be honest. If I am going to bother with getting my lazy ass off the couch to work on a car, I am going to do the best job I can, regardless of the make. Otherwise I'll let somebody else do it.

That being said, I see no reason to spend stupid money on a car just because it's a Porsche. I refuse to pay more for a Bosch part just because it came in a Porsche box, I'll throw away the box anyway. If there is a good quality aftermarket part, I'll use it without hesitation.

IMO, and based on what I've read, the K&N filters are an inferior product to OEM in terms of filtration and protecting the motor. They may allow more airflow, but they also allow more dirt.

FWIW, the OEM supplier for air filters for the 931 is Mahle. There may be other makes, but that is all I can get thru my wholesaler, and the only brand that is listed as OEM supplier. Price is $35. I can also source the K&N cartridge, which is $59. Not sure where you're seeing a price less than $35 for the K&N because that is less than wholesale.

I agree with you on the K&N being inferior. Generally speaking, all other things being equal, a quality disposable air filter tends to work better than a washable one, in my experience. Amazon shows 35.63 + $6.44 for shipping from a vendor called "price pros". You can buy it for 41.36 from amazon with free shipping which is 71 cents less.

In any event, after looking on K&N's web site there's also AC Delco and WIX:

I am leaning towards AC Delco, unless they turn out too expensive.

Actually it seems to me that the new AC delco number is A2862C and the going rate seems to be $51. WIX has discontinued these filters.
