Yep... I be stupid.
Some years ago I think I posted a wee problematic no start issue with my '78 924.
Folks were polite and helpful.
And then when I thought that I would have to become one with a multi-meter and find the intermittent short, the problem seemed to go away.
Then the problem was back.
Then everything was fine again.
Then I noticed that when taking a hard right corner, the engine would sound kinda rough... kinda like it wasn't firing on all cylinders....kinda like it was going to die even.
About this time started a "car account" ($$$$) as this was something that I was sure was going to need LOTS of "peeling the onion" (AKA buying replacing parts that *might* be causing the problem).
Hood insulation was replaced.
Nope.
Battery posts cleaned.
Nope.
Battery cables maybe loose?
Nope.
Battery seemed like the next thing to replace, but wait.... didn't I get a new battery... right after that cool cut-off switch to the battery... you know, the thing that you can turn off the juice without having to disconnect the battery....?
Turns out that when I got the new battery, I never checked to see where the "cut off" switch was in relation to the hood, and going around a corner, OR parking on a slant would be just enough to have the switch come in contact with the hood, and cause the rough running, and occasional "completely dead battery" symptom.
So...hopefully my total humiliation will help someone else out there with a car that "seems kinda rough in the corners", or has goofy starting problems.
And I hang my head in shame at not catching something that was WAY too obvious.
