I have an '81 931 with stock 15in 5-lug spyderweb rims. I got my grabby hands on a set of 16 inch wheels from 986 Boxster:
Front: 6J16 ET50
Rear: 7J16 ET40
The stock wheels are ATS 6J15H2, proudly marked AlSiMg, which to my knowledge implies an Aluminum-Magnesium alloy.
I believe (knowledgeable folks feel free to correct me on this) that the offset on the stock wheels is 52.3 mm. If I did my math correctly, the front wheel should be more or less a direct bolt-on, they will stick 2 mm further outwards. The rear wheels should stick out approximately 25 mm more that stock rims. I assumed the 1-2 mm difference to be insignificant, but will the rear wheels clear my wheel arches, or am I going to need fender flares?
Also, I am assuming that I will need some sort of low profile tires, due to larger rim diameter. Google suggests the following:
front: 205/55R16 91H
rear: 225/50R16 92V
If anybody on the forum has suggestions based on hands-on experience, please feel free to share. |

You should be ok with those on the rear with the stock spacers removed. You'll probably not even need to roll the fenders.
The tyre profiles you suggest are the ones I would pick for those rims. The 225 width on the rear definitely suits the 7 inch rims better IMHO.
Personally I would never go lower than a 50 profile, especially on a road car. _________________ 1979 UK 932 |
