Hi. Does anyone have experience taking out the fuel injector insulating socket/bushing/cup? I damaged the hex socket of the bushing when I tried to screw it out; now I don't know how to take it out... what's the best method to without the insulator debris going into the hole!

Unfortunately, the best way is not to damage the hex socket...

Luckily, as they're plastic you can be fairly brutal in gouging out the leftovers without damaging the threads in the head, but I think that's the game you're now in...

That sounds like a hardwork ahead. Thanks.

I use the head of a 17mm (IIRC?) bolt stuck into the socket, then two nuts jammed together, then an box end wrench (spanner) to remove... Have a vacuum handy if you need it to keep the bits out of the intake runner. Don't want to jam up a valve with a bit of plastic.

To protect against losing something in there, put the engine at TDC before you start, then you can remove the intake manifold to retreive anything that falls in the hole. It won't get past the valve...

Appreciate all your comments guys...

To emoore 924, what's the easiest way to ensure that the valves are at TDC mode? Tried to browse the web for answers and I'm confused... btw, this is my first project.

The only engine I worked with before was a Beettle. The engine was dormant for 22 years in a warm garage, but it looks ok; it turned over the first try; just trying to replace some parts that would ensure engine works consistently when started...almost changed and overhauled all the fuel system!!!!
