Car is '81 924 n/a. Problem is with outer shaft O ring.
OK , the old O ring was shot to pieces after 30 years. I thought this would be an easy fix, but I was wrong!
In the O ring groove are two raised notches ; every time I try to seat the ring it bulges up here and no amount of wiggling and rocking will get this to seat. It seats fine without the O ring.
I'm thinking of just siliconing the top flange where it meets the head. Yes , I will have to get the timing right before it sets.
This is driving me completely nuts & I've googled this issue with no success.
Thanks for any suggestions! |

Mine's a UK import too...
I have read some folks don't bother with a paper gasket , or make one , and the parts diagram for the US dizzies don't even show an O ring. Arrgh!
There were shrivelled soft bits of black something that did not look like just oil residue falling off the groove of my diz shaft. |
