|
|
In an effort to bypass my heater core I removed my ignition coil and found 3 balls of ducktape behind my engine.
removing the duck tape uncovered the following 3 plugs
any of you can help me out figure what their purpose is?
Those look like vaccum port but on a water pipe so i'm a bit confused.
If they should be connected to something please let me know what
If you got a picture even better!
also I noticed the heater core water tubing(short one) is a size a bit bigger than 3/4 and ends up in 5/8, any idea if I can expand a 3/4 to fit on the hole or cut my OEM hose and get a 5/8 coupler to plug another hose end? _________________ 1979 924 NA |

I am not sure, never looked there. but looking at the photo, the right hand one looks like an electrical temperature sender, the middle one looks like a mini diaphram pressure switch the left im not sure (on second examination, could they be a blocked off trickle water feed?).
But if there in the water line and not standard, perhaps someone had trouble with the water system, or more likely,as you are up in the cold of canada could it be a monitor system for a engine pre-heater or even a warm feed from a removed remote cockpit pre-heater? trouble is, if its removed, you wont know exactly what each does or if there was a flow cut valve in circuit as they will probably have been valuable and removed for the next car or flogged on ebay which could lead you head scratching.
Sorry not much help. Best ask someone or have a look in the book to see if it isnt something to do air-con or smog emmisions. dont have a book with me and i dont have either fitted to my car.
I think idiola might be able to help as he has taken his car back to nut and bolts and built them back up again.
hope this help _________________ I KNEW white wall tyres were invented by Americans .....just not at Boeing.... to be fitted on the 737..... |

This is part of the EGR system. You'll find more details in the Hayne's manual. _________________ 78 924 NA

I elieve EGR system was only on california cars for 924
My car was imported from California in the late 80's
Since they are pluggued offf i assume PO tried to remove EGR system.
Maybe i could do a proper removal then
If ant of you has a picture of this hose on their car it would be helpful.
Knowing that this part is a simple hose in other 924 i will simply replace it and call it a day _________________ 1979 924 NA |

well seeing the car is currently running with them unpluggued and the fact I want to go carburated myself I might be more interested in what this pipe looks like in your current status.
did you simply replaced it with a regular hose or made a big ball of duck tape to cover them? _________________ 1979 924 NA |

The one with the electrical connections is referred to in PET as "thermo valve", and the other two are referred to as "temperature switches", although that does little to reveal their intended purposes. The ones with the vac ports, you don't even need to plug up the holes, just leave the switches in place and the vac ports disconnected as is, should have little impact on how the car runs, although IIRC it has something to do with US emissions control, so might affect your emissions output to some extent, and might be an issue if you have to undergo visual inspection or smog testing. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
