For those who are curious the former Chris Marsh 924 has been back in action this year.

She did quite well at drivers school, making it through 17 sessions with only minor issues.

After solving a few issues with alternators that wanted to disembark with out permission from the Captain, it looked like she was going to make it through the Summit Point Race weekend on June 9-10, but suffered from operator induced mechanical failure. (I missed a shift...real badly! )

Hopefully the head will be repaired in time for the July 14-15 weekend where I hope to successfully lose my novice stripes.

Sorry about the head issue....

I love you guys posting all of this great stuff........but I still have two more months before I can get back to my toofah and finish getting her ready to race.......oh well, patience is a virtue I guess

So for now....I am living vicariously through you guys

Nice to see it back in action.

Good luck with the repair.

Hayes,

Prepping for SCCA ITB. Still have a ways to go. I have a thread on the build a bit further down on the main 924 racing today page titled "racer project." I have luckily been able to save up and start stock piling parts with my poor wife while I am away so that I can get the toofah ready to go in a short amount of time when I get back.

I have done time trials at VIR in another car

great course! Have you been over there?

Cheers,
Ian

For those of you who know this is probably a pretty crappy line going into turn 5. However, since I don't have the cohones to go through 4 with out braking yet, it's probably not the slowest either.

Hey, it's like criticizing the jogger on the side of the road, bouncing up and down like a rabbit (inefficient running, lead with your hips, it's smoother). No one is going to say, 'hey, he sucked on turn 4, whatup!'. Nope, getting out there an actually doing something, running or racing, is better than the 95% that are virtual couch potatoes! Congrats!

Hayes has more laps at Summit than I have this year. I've lost 2 input shaft seals on my 915 gearbox in two weekends. Bent valves are much easier to repair. I won't make the July race but shooting for Charlotte in Aug.

Indeed...well done!

Looked great. In my very short time tracking cars and doing time trials, I have received some very good advice from some really great racers, and one of the biggest pieces is that even guys like Ayrton Senna missed apexes and didn't always have the right line, but the point of racing is not that, it is about how much fun you have while you are doing it! That is all that really matters.

Cheers!

Ian

Thanks for the kind words about my line. I've got a lot to learn, but learning is a lot of fun

The best news is that at around 20:30 EST last Sunday the patient regained her pulse.

Note to self: When replacing the head DO NOT FORGET TO POSITION THE HEADERS FIRST!!! When my buddy explained to my wife that we went on a "three hour de-TOUR" due to this minor oversight (we had to remove the oil adapter, starter and right side engine mount to get those damn headers in) she asked "who was Gilligan"

Don't know if that's a better nick-name than "money shift"?

Anyway, I can't wait to get her out for a practice day on 8/13 then ready for the big double race over labor day weekend.

"help name me"
I call my race cars "The 911" and "The Benz". Eventually my next one will be called "The 924".
If you must name your car, stay away from "Lucille". It will suck the life out of you through the Go Pedal.

yeah, naming a car is difficult, I liked 'spike' for paul's old car when I had it, but the current fleet is pretty much nameless. Except, the Mercedes 300SDL is the 'staff car'. The 911 is the blue car, the recently finished 924 turbo is the black car, the CGT project, wait for it.....is the red car!

Merritt and I were having just such a discussion towing her racecar, #77, back from Mid-O last weekend... she was bemoaning the lack of a name... It'd always been just "the racecar"... till the second racecar came along. Which was then "the DSR" and "the 77". Still not so great.

Didn't come to any decision... I'm preferring "Sheena" (thanks to the Ramones), she's preferring "Lucretia" (Mac Evil)...

The DSR was much more easily named: Tallulah

Concurrently, Chris Marsh's new DSR (a 1st gen Stohr) is "Miss Bitch" (so named by Chris's girlfriend... who clearly has no idea how much time Tallulah takes up!)

Back on-topic, talked to Haynes last night; the #55 is running again (after head job to replace bent valves), he's just futzing around with the distributor trying to get it correct and properly timed again.
