Hey everyone, I have been rebuilding my car for the last 2 years now, chipping away at it slowly piece by piece. I am at the end of the rebuild proccess. I finally got my cometic head gasket and installed the head last night. The head is from a 77 california car that had the EGR/Smog pump installed on it. I had the big valve job done on it and had it port matched with the intake. I discovered something I didn't know before, the head has small holes drilled all the way through it from the intake side on the exhaust valve. Has anyone noticed this before on the california cars?
My question is what should I do? Leave them there or plug them? I thinking plug them but how should I go about doing that?
I hope this makes sense. _________________ Porsche 924 1977 N/A

I think I saw those holes, There is a channel cut into the head down below the intake ports which has I believe some cross the head holes that fill up the channel with exhaust soot. It looked like an attempt to warm the incoming air to improve the combustion efficiency, manufacturers tried a lot of that type of thing back in the day. I just left mine alone also, I believe the intake manifold gasket blocks them off. _________________ Mike
