944 '84 daily driver: Clutch is OK, gearbox seems to be just fine but I'm having difficulties to move the lever sideways. It requires a firm tap/push to the lever in order to move it across the H-pattern. So the gears go in and out normally but the there is like some sort of ridge with the sideway movement that requires more force.
Is it the linkage on top of the gearbox? _________________ Mikko

Had the same issue with my barn-find 1982 Babe.....turned out to be a dead kind-of-a-bird stickin between the gear shaft.
Car was parked for more then a decade... _________________ NA 924 - april/1977- 4-speed-audi gearbox.

A bird? Well theoretically a gearbox could be carried by an african swallow but not by a european swallow... What?
Guess I just try to clean the linkage then. Thanks Nobbi. _________________ Mikko

Common issue caused by corrosion on the tranny's exterior shift linkage. Good time to buy and install a short shifter. Something like this one:
